Type Locality and Naming
Hubei - NW. Longmaigou in Fangxian County, Hubei Province. Named by Hubei Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, 1990, Regional Geology of Hubei Province [Geological Memoirs of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources of the People’s Republic of China, (1)Regional Geology, no.20], Beijing: Geological Publishing House, 236. First appeared in a manuscript by Lei Yizhen.
Lithology and Thickness
Alternating beds of brownish red gravel-bearing coarse-grained sandstone and brown silty mudstone, with interbeds of yellow gravel-bearing sandstone.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying early Eocene Youping Fm.
Upper contact
The top of the formation is conformably overlain by the very thick-bedded to massive conglomerate of the Eocene Heizhanggou Fm.
